10 years on

This day 10 years ago, this flower decoration (ignore Snoopy on right side of picture), one of several made by my friend WY for the occasion, hung on the pew of Blessed Sacrament Church for our wedding. 10 years on, it still sits in our bookshelf.

Congratulations to us on our 10th wedding anniversary... hee hee...

7 things we didn't think of then but have happened over these 10 years:
1. I'm using the husband's wedding band, and he obviously can't fit into either of ours. Waistlines have also expanded all round.
2. We have become so sleep deprived.
3. We would 'celebrate' our 10th anniversary (at The Line) with the son tagging along.
4. Our child does not go to school at either of our alma maters.
5. The son is actually thinking rather seriously about marriage. He has changed his mind a few times about whether he wants to get married. Think he looks upon some of his classmates rather differently now after he asked, 'How do you get a wife or husband?' and I said, 'Well, usually it will be one of your friends.' I believe he is thinking of some of them as prospective wives. Actually, there are a few cute girls in his class...
6. The priest who officiated at our wedding (and who also baptised the son) is now the Archbishop.
7. WY is now a principal in a secondary school!

Found out that the 'traditional' wedding anniversary gift for the 10th year is something made of tin or aluminuim! Very odd. A canned drink? One of those recycled Coke can decorations? A new awning for the flat?

Hello Household Name

Happy 10th Anniversary to U and Hubby!!

Someone I know once said that if you can make your marriage last for 10 years, highly likely you can make it last for the rest of your lifetime. The first 10 years, he said, are supposed to be the most trying years for most couples.

May you and hubby live happily ever after.....

Thank you, Working Mum,
I hope what that person said is true. Sometime last year, I was discussing this article on divorce rates in S'pore with a bunch of young people. Seems reasons like infidelity are no longer #1 reasons for divorce but stuff like 'lack of communication', etc. We looked at the 'risk factors' listed in the article and when we got to 'married for around 10 years' and 'children starting primary school', they all went 'ORRR!!!'

Anyway, no time for pessimisim here, of course. Life is good...

True train school

‘Having eyes, but not seeing beauty; having ears, but not hearing music; having minds, but not perceiving truth; having hearts that are never moved and therefore never set on fire. These are the things to fear, said the headmaster.’ How would you like to have such a headmaster? I finally re-read (read it first as a teenager) Totto-chan, The Little Girl at the Window , a ‘school story’ by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi, translated by Dorothy Britton. Totto-chan is the name Tesuko Kuroyanagi called herself, and the book is about her life during her school days at Tomoe Gakuen. Totto-chan was expelled from her first elementary school because of her ‘disruptive’ behaviour, which included constantly opening and closing her desk top (because she was so thrilled by it), ‘vandalising’ her desk (because there wasn’t enough space on the piece of paper to draw) and standing by the classroom window waiting for street musicians to pass by or talking to swallows. Her mother, although probably alarmed about the ...

No wonder

According to a poll of about 300 people, reported in yesterday's Sunday Times, (how come nobody ever asks me these things?) , the Seven Wonders of Singapore are (in order of merit): 1. The Esplanade (a whopping 82 votes) 2. Changi Airport (53 votes) 3. Sentosa 4. The Merlion 5. The Singapore River 6. Food 7. Mount Faber and LKY (tie - 10 votes each) Some 'offbeat choices' which didn't make it to the top 7: aunties selling tissue paper at coffee shops, Singlish, kiasuism, 4D-Toto outlets and Newater (said someone of Newater: 'We are probably the only country with branded recycled sewage.' Well said, ha ha.). Maybe it's a personal bias but I feel that a 'Wonder' must also have strong historical and cultural/social value (so I'm rather miffed that Angkor Wat didn't make it to the 7 Wonders of the World; in fact it was never in the running for the top 7). Therefore, these choices are a little too modern for me. The Esplanade, for example, is a...

Be Melodramatic! (2019)

An entertaining look at the media world, although the plot and acting (thankfully) weren’t melodramatic! There was some drama over relationships but overall, ‘good friends’ is the prevailing vibe and at the end, you almost want to shout  友谊万岁   (friendship forever). all their living room chats and meals; Eun-jung's brother's home garb and robes! There is also Eun-jung’s other friend, who is a gem, so for me, this show is mainly about friendship.   It is wonderful how everyone moves in because they are concerned for Eun-jung (Jeon Yeo-been). Her grief and healing are movingly portrayed, and Yeo-been’s acting and Eun-jung’s storyline eclipsed that of the main character.  Eun-jung is beautiful, smart and tragic.   heartbreak she gets along so well with her cameraman Han-joo (Han Ji-eun – Ae-wol !) is cute, smart and tragic.  They both work responsibly and seriously, treat others with respect and deserve the success and opportunities that come th...
