There is a strange story in today's ST, 'I think I saw Mas Selamat', a fairly graphic account of this person's (possible) close encounter with the man.
A few strange things in this story. First, she said she saw a 'Malay man on the other side of Thomson Road.' How could she tell he was Malay from across the road? She noticed while he was walking near SJI (International) that 'he had a limp in his left leg'. Didn't the police say the limp is only noticeable if he's running or something like that? She said he looked 'scruffy', but why should he? I'm sure that in prison and detention centres, people have their baths and stuff. It's not as if they are left to rot there, right?
She also said he looked 'dishevelled' and 'disoriented' and as though he didn't know where to head or what to do. Somehow, I find it hard to believe that an apparently astute and well-trained man like him would appear so 'lost'. Then, she said saw him approach a stranger and again, I'm wondering why an apparently astute and well-trained 'terrorist' would go up to a stranger, while looking dishevelled, in broad daylight, so near to where he escaped from.
Lastly, this sighting was near SJI (International) at Thomson Road but the big search on the first day was near SJI at Whitley, about 2-3 bus stops away I think, where he was apparently spotted as well. How did he, if he really did, get from one SJI to the other??
I don't know about you all, but things just don't add up for me.
While I'm on strange stories, there were a couple of ridiculous ones I came across recently. First, I read Me and Mr Darcy by Alexandra Potter. I bought it for the simple reason that it was about Mr Darcy but it turned out to be another big waste of money. It was an unabashed copy of the Pride and Prejudice tale, with the appearance of Mr Darcy and Jane Austen herself (a tour guide named Una J. Steane, an anagram of the author's name) in modern day England! Now, there are some unabashed copies that are skilfully done and some which aren't, and I'm afraid this one just didn't work for me.
Then, I watched Night at the Museum (picture from here), a ludicrous story. I mean, I generally love museums but I think this story is more suitable as a children's show. There are funny parts, though, the 'best' being the scene where the exhibits danced to 'September' by Earth, Wind and Fire. Anyway, the reason why I watched it was someone lent us the blue ray version. I have to say that the resolution is amazing.
