Strolling in Singapore

I forgot if it was the Straits or Sunday Times that got lambasted by some people for running the article on Orchard Road dress sense - whether people should wear slippers and dress down for Orchard Road, etc.

It was followed rather quickly by Sunday's article about strollers - parents with strollers versus non-stroller users. Wah, I thought, really got nothing else to write about ah?

Well, since the article was written and I am an ex-stroller user, I shall have my two cents' worth here.

I think it is all about consideration for others and common sense. Obviously, some people have more of these and some people less. To me, poor stroller etiquette is similar to poor road manners, poor bicycle manners, poor pedestrian manners, poor trolley-pushing manners, poor aisle-walking manners, etc. I don't think there is much you can do if other people do not exercise the consideration and common sense you wish they did. To avoid getting into accidents and fights (road rage, bicycle rage, stroller rage and what not), we just have to keep our eyes wide open and avoid trouble.

At the same time, I have to say that people who do not make way for people with strollers and people on wheel chairs going into lifts, ambulances on the road, etc, have even poorer manners.

And, Aprica strollers are the best!!

Yes Aprica strollers are the best. I got mine 10 years back, shipped it in by tompanging my friend's container of goods coming in from Japan. Nowadays you see more and more of those strollers with one big wheel in the front. Must be some sort of new fashion; makes me feel so old generation.

You are absolutely right. It's not the stroller but the people.

Let's face it; we all need to be more patient and understanding. Sometimes, when I am in a hurry, I get very irritated by people who are walking ever so slowly in front of me on a crowded walkway, and slowing me down. At other times, when I am not in a hurry, I am blocking others and I get irritated by their impatience in wanting to overtake.

Hi Fuzzoo,
I know the type you mean! I always think it looks rather bulky. Aprica is so light and easy to manoeuvre.

Mr Lam,
Ya, I can't imagine what it will be like when we have 7 million living in Singapore...
