There were some letters today about the poor attention given to our Paralympians.
A Mr Leong Tuck Meng wrote: 'Yip Pin Xiu has done Singapore proud by winning Singapore's first Olympic gold medal. It may be the Paralympic Games, but a gold medal is a gold medal. I am appalled at the amount of media coverage and publicity this has been given... My children were very excited about Singapore's Paralympic achievements and wanted to watch the swimming on TV. Alas, there was no footage, only a short note on the news teletext... How sad that a momentous occasion in Singapore's sporting history is relegated to a footnote. We should have given the same amount of airtime to the winners of the Paralympics as we did to our silver-winning table tennis Olympians.'
Mr Jack Tsen-Ta Lee wrote: 'I am glad that MediaCorp screened the opening ceremony of the Paralympics last week and started broadcasting an hour-long daily summary on Channel 5. I do wonder, though, why plans were not made to televise these events soon after the start of the Games. If I am not mistaken, no reports were broadcast for almost the whole of last week. It is unfortunate that viewers were unable to watch Singaporean Paralympians Theresa Goh and Laurentia Tan in action.'

Ya lah. Why like that? Gold medal also cannot make it to the front page. HD5 is going to show Yip Pin Xiu's gold-medal-winning later tonight. Now then show.
My son was also excited about the Paralympics and we kept checking HD5 to see if they were showing any events. Sadly, he managed to watch almost nothing.
I managed to watch parts of the opening ceremony, which was really good, fake or not. The performances by the people with disabilities were especially impressive.
Anyway, well done, all Paralympians. I heard Yip Pin Xiu's school is planning a heroine's welcome for her. Good for them, too.
Emblem from here.
